Alfie’s Pier to Pier Marathon!
Last week, we met with Alfie.
At just 16 years old, Alfie, who has a passion for football and all things sport, has decided to take on a fundraising challenge for his Grandad who is living with Cancer and in support of Weston Hospicecare.
Alfie and his close friend, also called Alfie, will be running The Weston-super-Mare to Clevedon Pier to Pier Way and back on Monday 25th August. The route is a total of 26 miles or, the same distance as a full marathon.
Alfie, who has just left school was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism as a young adult and subsequently had a challenging time in education, however, he has turned this around thanks to specialist support and is now looking to ways to give back to his local community. Alfie’s mum Lisa, said: “Alfie has come a long way in the last few years to turn things around. He has a heart of gold and chose to do this for Weston Hospicecare so that we could see the impact and the money going into our community.”
When asked why they wanted to tackle this running challenge Alfie explained that it was while at the gym one day, that he and friends Alfie and Morgan decided they weren’t quite satisfied with their training session, so the next day ran the new Pier to Pier Path from Weston to Clevedon. Feeling inspired, they immediately decided they could take on even further, running the distance twice and equalling a marathon in distance. Sadly, due to an injury, Morgan won’t be able to join them on the challenge but will be supporting from the sidelines.
Darran Griffiths, Events and Challenges Fundraiser at Weston Hospicecare said: “We are incredibly grateful to Alfie and his friends for choosing to support Weston Hospicecare with this fantastic challenge! Please join us in wishing Alfie and Alfie good luck!”
