Weston Hospicecare Update: Beacon Cyber Security Incident

Lauren Easterbrook

Weston Hospicecare has been made aware of a cyber security incident affecting Beacon, one of the digital systems used by the hospice and an estimated 1,000 charities and organisations across the UK. Beacon is a system that helps organisations manage relationships with supporters, donors and volunteers. It is not used for patient care or clinical services at Weston Hospicecare.

We understand that news like this can cause concern. While we don’t yet have all the answers, we want to acknowledge that the trust our patients, families, supporters, volunteers and donors place in us means a great deal.

We’re currently working to understand what this incident may mean for Weston Hospicecare and whether any of our information has been affected. Like many charities across the country, we’re awaiting further information while Beacon’s investigation continues.

We are working closely with Beacon, taking appropriate advice and following our information governance and incident management processes, while monitoring developments carefully. We will continue to be as open and honest as possible as we learn more.

At this stage, there is no action required from our supporters. If the investigation identifies that any Weston Hospicecare data has been affected, we will contact those individuals directly as soon as reasonably practical and provide further information and support.

Thank you for your continued support, patience and understanding.
