New Year, New Challenge: Why Not Give Up or Step Up for Weston Hospicecare in 2018?

December 20, 2017
Lauren Easterbrook

As the New Year begins, most of us start thinking about resolutions or challenges that we’d like to take on. It’s no secret that leading a healthy, more active lifestyle is beneficial in many ways, so why not think about taking on a step challenge? Do you find it easy to get those 10,000 steps in a day, or is it more of a challenge? Why not ask friends and family to sponsor you?

It doesn’t have to be a walking challenge, of course… Why not push yourself out of your comfort zone by running 50 miles over the course of a month, or even 100?!

Alternatively, if you don’t want to step up, you might want to give up- another very popular resolution.

You could give up smoking; not only will you see a huge difference in your overall health, you’ll save massive amounts of money! You could think about taking the money you would have spent in January on cigarettes, and donating it to Weston Hospicecare instead. Alternatively, if you’ve been indulging a little too much over the festive period, why not give up alcohol, or cake?!

Ask friends, family, and work colleagues to support you in your resolution by offering sponsorship or a donation; you’ll find you’re much more likely to stick to a challenge when you know there’s people willing you to succeed!

Every penny you raise helps us to support patients and their families whose lives are affected by life-limiting illnesses. It costs £4 million to run Weston Hospicecare, but only 20% of our funding comes from the NHS. The rest is raised by our fantastic local community, who support us by shopping in our stores, taking part in fundraising events, or planning their own, such as the suggestions above.

If you’d like more information on Step Up or Give Up, you can visit the fundraising page on our website, or contact our community fundraiser, Rachel, on 01934 423921 or email Rachel.Mansfield@westonhospicecare.org.uk for your FREE fundraising pack that contains all you need to get started. Make 2018 the best year yet!
