Why Weston Hospicecare Needs YOU!

September 8, 2017
Lauren Easterbrook

Volunteering for Weston Hospicecare can take on many forms, from helping in one of our shops, to providing beauty treatments as part of our Day Hospice service. Here at Weston Hospicecare, we’re very aware that we couldn’t offer all the services that we do without the support of our team of volunteers, and we are grateful to all those who have, and continue to, support us in this way.

Our dedicated team tell us volunteering gives them the opportunity to make new friends, meet new people, and learn new skills, as well as letting them put their existing skills to good use. It really is a great team to be a part of, too, with regular cake and coffee mornings being held which gives everyone the chance to meet other volunteers on our team.

Volunteering for us doesn’t have to be a time-heavy commitment. If you could spare just a couple of hours a week, or even four hours a month, your time can provide invaluable support to patients and their families. The range of volunteering roles we have on offer are wide and varied, and there’s something on offer for everyone.

For example; right now, we’re looking for a trained Beauty Therapist (Level 2 or equivalent) to offer treatment to our patients once a month on a Friday. This is a great opportunity to put your skills to good use, providing much needed and valued treatments to patients, and giving you the opportunity to meet new people, as well.

We’re also looking for housekeeping staff, just 2-4 hours a week, or Ward Receptionists- again, just for a few hours once a week. You might like to spare some time to volunteer for us as a driver, helping transport patients to or from Day Hospice on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

If you love the world of fashion or retail, then a volunteering role in one of our shops might be for you. Feel free to call into any one of our Weston Hospicecare shops to ask about the roles on offer. We’re also looking for volunteer Mystery Shoppers, visiting our shops as either a customer or donor and reporting back to our retail director; a fascinating and fun way to help Weston Hospicecare.

If you’re savvy about online shopping, and Ebay and Amazon are always on your shortcuts, did you know we have shops on both sites? Why not volunteer to assist in the selling of items on both these and other internet platforms? It doesn’t have to be a time-heavy commitment, just whatever time you can offer is great.

The list of volunteering opportunities doesn’t stop there, either; from van-drivers mate, to one off volunteering at our fundraising events, giving your time to help Weston Hospicecare is one of the ways in which you can help us to ensure that we can continue to provide care and assistance to the people of Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Wedmore, Clevedon, and the surrounding areas. The full list of roles on offer can be downloaded here If you’d like to discuss any of these opportunities, feel free to contact Sue Phillips on 01934 423 975.
