Weston Hospicecare Rugby Ramble: “What better way is there to spend time with your mates whilst raising money for a great cause”

February 22, 2024
Lauren Easterbrook

We’re only a few weeks away from our annual Rugby Ramble, taking place on Saturday 9th March 2024, sponsored by Thatchers Cider! Hundreds of people join in every year, and we cannot wait for the big day next month! It isn’t too late to sign up for the upcoming event and register here.

The Rugby Ramble, formerly known as the Men’s March, is a 10-mile charity walk that starts at the Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare. Attendees will journey along the coastline, through Weston Woods, and ending back at the Grand Pier.

We recently caught up with Glynn Smith, an annual Rugby Ramble attendee, to talk through what he loves about the event.

Glynn has been attending the Rugby Ramble yearly since 2020, using the event as the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends, have a laugh, but most importantly, raise money for a local cause. We asked Glynn about his commitment to supporting our annual event, and he explained: “It is important to support these local fundraising activities to ensure that the hospice can continue to operate on a day-to-day basis. Most people know someone who has benefited from Weston Hospicecare’s unwavering care.”

The Rugby Ramble is an amazing way to support Weston Hospicecare. The costs to run the hospice are currently at £5 million each year, with only 20% of funding coming from the NHS. This means that events like Rugby Ramble are crucial in helping raise these vital funds to help support families in the local community. Last year, Rugby Ramble raised over £23,000, which made an incredible impact in helping the hospice!

After completing the walk across the scenic area, Glynn and other participants will enjoy a refreshing pint of cider courtesy of our event sponsor Thatchers Cider, plus a delicious Pieminister Pie, and a chance to watch the Six Nations with your fellow walkers.

We welcome you all to join us for the charity walk, whether you would like to join us alone, as a group, as a family, or as a couple. Registration for Rugby Ramble opens at 11 AM on 9th March, and the walk begins at 12 PM.

The charity walk also comes with many benefits, including:

  • The chance to help raise money for a brilliant hospice
  • A pint of Thatchers Cider and a Pieminister Pie at the end of the walk
  • A souvenir Rugby Ramble pint glass
  • A fantastic location to watch the Six Nations

If this sounds like something you would like to participate in as a way to support your local hospice, you can book your ticket here.
