National Guardian - Freedom to speak up

Team Bull’s Eye to get bubbly for Weston Hospicecare

July 10, 2017
Lauren Easterbrook

With the brand-new Bubble Rush set to take place for the first time ever in Burnham-on-Sea on 5 August in Apex Park, participants are sure to have a fun-filled day at this family-friendly 5K. After donning a Bubble Rush T-shirt, those taking part can run, walk, dance or toddle their way through four colourful Bubble Stations along the course.

The event has inspired a variety of different groups to sign up for the 5K, including area nursing and hospital staff, local families, work colleagues and more. One such organisation is David Bull Optometrists, an independent, family-owned opticians that has been in Burnham-on-Sea since 1983.

‘We first heard about Bubble Rush from a flyer sent to us from the hospice, having been supporters of past events,’ said David Bull, owner of David Bull Optometrists. ‘My wife’s father died of cancer some years ago and received great care at the hospice during his illness; he really enjoyed his Wednesday trips to the hospice. Since that time, we have tried to support them as much as we can – taking part in Christmas Cracker Beach Runs, supporting the Tree of Life and so on.’

Six David Bull Optometrist staff members and four family members, including two of David’s grandchildren, have all signed up for the Bubble Rush. With ages ranging from 64 down to 4, the group is the perfect example of how the Bubble Rush is fun for children and children at heart alike.

‘We have a strong team spirit, and this is the latest of several fundraising events that we have enjoyed as a group,’ said David.

The group hopes to raise £500 for the hospice. Donations can be made at the optician’s practice in Burnham or via their JustGiving page, https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/david-bull10.

‘We love hearing stories from people like David and the rest of Team Bull’s Eye,’ said Sally Davis, Community and Events Manager at Weston Hospicecare. ‘We hope their story inspires even more people to sign up, take part and raise sponsorship, and we wish Team Bull’s Eye the best of luck!’
