National Guardian - Freedom to speak up

Strictly Fun Dancing in aid of Weston Hospicecare will return in March 2019

September 4, 2018
Lauren Easterbrook

The hunt is on for couples to take part in Weston Hospicecare’s Strictly Fun Dancing grand finale in March 2019.

This year the charity raised more than £22,000 at the inaugural event and the charity is delighted to confirm its return.

A night which promises glamour, sequins and fun, will take place in the ballroom at the Winter Gardens on 23 March 2019.

The hospice is now searching for 12 couples to sign up for the fabulous occasion. Starting from Sunday 13 January 2019, couples can expect weekly training sessions for 10 weeks at Kewstoke Village Hall led by professional dancers Ben Hazell and his dance partner Ali Cooling.

This year, participants will learn a salsa and a waltz to perform at the grand finale in March. Couples selected to take part will need to pay a £30 registration fee and pledge to raise £500 for the charity. Event organiser Kelsey Dehaney said: “Last year was far more successful than any of us at Weston Hospicecare imagined it could be.

“To raise more than £22,000 for one evening of glamour and fun is fantastic and it wasn’t just the dancers, staff, volunteers and attendees on the night that enjoyed themselves. Our patients thoroughly enjoyed looking at the photos and watching the event video which makes this event extra special.

“We want to make it even better in 2019 and ensure Strictly Fun Dancing becomes part of the Weston Hospicecare fundraising event calendar.“We are now looking for prospective couples to take part by becoming dancers in the grand finale next March. If you are interested please get in touch for more information and an application form.”

Due to last year’s success and limited availability for dancers, couples will be asked to apply to take part.

If you would like to register your interest to be part of the Strictly Fun Dancing class of 2019 then please email kelsey.dehaney@westonhospicecare.org.uk for more information and to receive an application form.

More information about tickets for spectators will be available from the end of January.
